DOI Foundation and Topics
The DOI Foundation is actively opting out of the cohort calculations which enable Google-designed technologies known as Topics, formerly known as Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC). These technologies aim to allow the effective targeting of online advertising by grouping users into large “cohorts” based on common browsing activity.
The use of the DOI web proxy and other doi.org domains are excluded from this calculation because The DOI Foundation ensures that responses are tagged so that they are ignored by these cohort calculations - even if the client browser implements it.
The DOI Foundation does not have control over sites that are linked to via the DOI proxy. As a consequence, where the proxy redirects to a resource or a landing page, that access may be used in a cohort calculation. Users should check the functionality of their browser and consult the privacy policy of the relevant provider.
